How often Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boilers need to be serviced

It is generally recommended to get your Glowworm boiler, or any gas boiler serviced every 12 months regardless of its age or model.

However Vaillant and Glowworm insist that the burner door seal should be replaced every five years minimum, on any of their boilers that use the aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger.

All Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boilers use this aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger, so the burner door seal on these boilers needs to be replaced every five years minimum.

The fault codes listed below take you to the Vaillant ecoTEC boiler fault codes pages, but most of the fault codes are the same so most of the information is relevant the the Glowworm versions.

So if you intermittently experience the F27, F28, F29, F61, F62 or F75 fault codes, then it is probably worth getting your Glowworm boiler serviced before it stops working altogether, as it probably will at some point.

Glowworm boilers we don’t generally service or work on

We don’t typically work on or service Glowworm boilers older than the current generation of Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boilers.

We have a lot of experience working on the older Glowworm models, even the Saunier Duval derivatives of the Glowworm/Vaillant boilers, but unfortunately we Just don’t work on these anymore.

Older models we have had a lot of experience working on include the Glowworm cxi combination boilers, and the likes of the Saunier Duval Thema Classic and Thema Condens combination boilers.

Unfortunately we just don’t have the appetite for working on these older models anymore, the demand is not the same, plus space to carry boiler spares comes at a premium.

Common issues with Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boilers

Common issues with Glowworm boilers can vary depending on the type of boiler.

If you are experiencing any of the following issues you may want to get your boiler serviced as sometimes this can solve a lot of issues.

For Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 combination and system boiler models common issues can include;

boiler leaking and losing pressure, boiler leaking only when in use but not losing pressure, or boiler needing to be re pressurised every time after using central heating.

If your Glowworm Energy or Ultimate 3 boiler is losing pressure it will generally result in an F22 fault code.

Fans can sometimes fail on Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boiler models, which generally results in an F32 fault code.

Pump sensors or pumps can fail, which generally results in an F75 fault code.

Also if you are experiencing an intermittent F27 fault code, F61 fault code, or F62 fault code, then you should probably get your Glowworm boiler checked over as it will more than likely need to be repaired.

The fault codes listed above currently take you to the Vaillant ecoTEC fault code pages, but most the of the Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boiler models share the same fault codes, so most of the information is all still relevant.

How much does it cost to service a Glowworm boiler?

In general for most boilers we work on including the Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 range, a boiler service generally costs somewhere between £80 – £140 plus parts.

The entry level service is usually around £80 and the extensive service is generally somewhere around £140 plus parts.

The cost to service a Glowworm Energy or Ultimate 3 boiler is generally determined by the age of the boiler.

Glowworm Energy and Ultimate boilers require a basic level of service most of the time, but every five years a major service is recommended by Vaillant/Glowworm.

An extensive level of service includes replacing the burner door seal.

In fact the Vaillant and Glowworm insist that the burner door seal should be replaced every five years minimum, on any of their boilers that use the aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger.

Glowworm boilers which have an aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger includes all boilers in the Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 range.

This applies to all the Vaillant ecoFIT boiler models as well, as they use the same aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger as the Glowworm Energy and Ultimate 3 boiler models.

Whilst performing a major service and replacing the burner door seal, it makes sense to give the primary heat exchanger a thorough clean which most good engineers will do.

It’s also worth noting that the burner door seal has to be replaced every time it is disturbed by opening the burner door as it gets damaged.
