Vaillant TURBOmax Plus 828 E F28 ignition fault
This is a clip of an old Vaillant TURBOmax combi boiler going to ignition lockout, which on these boilers results in an F28 or F.28 fault code.
The F28 fault code on these boilers is an ignition fault, and it means that the printed circuit board did not detect a flame on the burner.
Ignition fault codes on any boiler are probably the most common and could be caused by a number of things including an issue with the gas supply, an issue with the gas valve, an issue with the printed circuit board, or a blocked or frozen condensate trap(not applicable to old TURBOmax boilers they’re non condensing).
In the case of this particular boiler the burner and burner injectors required cleaning.
This boiler only has one attempt at successful ignition and then goes to the F28 fault code.
Because the left side of the burner where the flame detection probe sits doesn’t light straight away, the boiler doesn’t detect a flame and goes to ignition lockout.
