Noisy Vaillant ecoTEC Plus combination boiler with blocked heat exchanger
This is a video of a noisy first generation Vaillant ecoTEC Plus combination boiler with a blocked primary heat exchanger.
Vaillant ecoTEC boilers of this generation use primary heat exchangers which have multiple channels.
These heat exchangers are designed this way as to increase thermal efficiency.
One of the downsides of this type of heat exchanger designs is that individual channels can get blocked.
When one of the channels gets blocked the heat exchanger kettles where the blockage is, which results in a noisy heat exchanger.
The noise is usually at it worst when the hot water is being used as this is when the boiler is working its hardest and the most amount of stress is being placed on the heat exchanger.
In general the only solution to this problem is to replace the primary heat exchanger and take measures as to prevent the replacement heat exchanger getting blocked again.
